When you have lived somewhere a very long time it is easy to get comfortable and overlook the fun just waiting to happen in your own backyard.

Born and raised in Tampa, I know there is plenty of the Tampa Bay area and even Florida that I have yet to experience, so I decided to make a list.

I’ll continue to add to this list and check in on the blog when I finally get around to experiencing my home state! Here it is:

  1. Big Cat Rescue
  2. Stand up paddle board
2a. Do yoga on a stand up paddle board
  3. Go to First Friday in downtown St. Pete
  4. Picnic Island Park
  5. Bike the Pinellas Bike Trail
  6. Run in the Gasparilla half-marathon
  7. Go to a race at the Tampa Bay Downs
  8. Kayak Weedon Island Preserve

Further out

  1. Coral Castle
  2. Caves in Brooksville
  3. Kennedy Space Center
  4. Sea World
  5. Neptune Memorial Reef
  6. Bok Tower Gardens
  7. The Ancient Spanish Monastery
  8. John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park

What do y’all think? Anything I forgot to include? Let me know!

Things to look forward to:

The past couple weeks I’ve been really busy with holidays, moving and work! I might be exhausted, but I am so thankful to be busy with so many exciting changes!

Now, that the holidays are over and I’m starting to feel settled into my routine, I finally have a moment to get excited about something I’ve been looking forward to… Gasparilla!

If you’re from the Tampa Bay area, you already know about Gasparilla. If not, just think of pirates and Mardi Gras mixed together for a day.

Since I went away for school, this will be my first Gasparilla in five years (eeek.. that reminds me of how old I’m getting!)  A lot of people like to dress up like pirates, which is fun, however that’s just not my thing. I’m happy with simply using pirates as inspiration for a sassy yet stylish outfit.

I’ve been brainstorming some ideas …

“Letting down barriers to be open to existence”

I always feel better after yoga. However, when I get busy it tends to be the first thing to go. Plus, the cost of classes can add up fast, especially when you have an entry-level job and are trying to save your money!

A lot of cities have opportunities for free community group fitness classes. You just have to know where to look! Do a Google search with your city and the type of class you’re looking for. On the top of my head, I can think of two weekly free yoga classes, a couple running groups and a CrossBoot class just in the Tampa area.

This past weekend, my friend Angela and I went to a free yoga class in downtown Tampa being put on by Downtown Tampa Yoga. It was a great class on a beautiful Florida Fall evening and the perfect way to start my week!

Towards the end of the class the instructor recited this quote:

“Letting down barriers to be open to existence”

I love this because in order to live a life full of loving people and experiences, you have to be able to let down barriers and let others in.

It’s always nice to have a reminder. It helps keep your mind and heart balanced on what is most important.

Love,
Liv

Daily Gratitude

Early in the day I’ve been trying to make a list of things I’m grateful for currently in my life. When I start off my day by making a gratitude list (either written down or just mental) it can change my outlook to my whole day!

Before I had a chance this morning to create my gratitude list I unfortunately got into an argument with a close family member. When something negative happens in our days its even more important to combat the negativity by thinking of something positive- and the more the better!

The more you are in a negative mood the more likely something negative is going to happen. The same thing if something positive is going in your life. For example, I’ve yet to make the list and two women just cut in front of me at Panera. This normally wouldn’t bother me but because I’m already annoyed I started thinking negative thoughts about these women that I don’t know and that’s just bad karma and nobody wants that.

Here’s my list!

Today I am grateful:

  • that I got the chance to visit my sister this weekend in Washington, DC. Not only did I have a really fun time going to dinner and drinks with her and her friends but we got we went to a really interesting exhibit at the Artisphere in Arlington that was showing photographs that the Mexican painter, Frida Kahlo took during her lifetime.
  • I am also grateful that I had the opportunity to walk around downtown DC all day Friday, while my sister was working, dropping off my resume and introducing myself at different public relations firms- hopefully something will lead to a job opportunity when I graduate.
  • I’m grateful for my sweet friend Alli, who watched my cat, Prince Louis, while I was away!
  • I’m SO grateful for the people I’ve met through my past internship who have been helping me in my hunt for a job by introducing me to their contacts in different cities that I hope to find work in!
  • for my MyPanera card which I was able to get a FREE carrot cupcake this morning!
  • that I was able to find a coupon for $20 off my haircut at a really nice salon in Tampa for when I’m home next weekend! (I REALLY need a cut!)

So that was my list today! I’m not feeling 100% back to my normal chipper self but I am feeling better and I’m ready to take on my day!

I hope everyone has a great week!

Love,
Liv
